Chislehurst, Petts Wood and Bickley
residents may think that, despite being in a London Borough, they actually live
in Kent. The BR postcode suggests this as all London addresses have
"London" in their address followed by a London area - SE, SW, E, N
etc.
Harvey Jones thinks not apparently.
This Cambridgeshire-based
kitchen-maker has over 25 showrooms across the UK and this Saturday (21st) will
be opening its latest, at 30 High Street, Chislehurst. Although, if you visit
their website and click on Showroom Finder, Chislehurst's address will show up
as being in London. What’s worse, according to their press release as above, we
live in South East London! They put the exclamation mark in, not us (!)
In the meantime, whilst they sort
out this small hiccup, pop along on Saturday and see what they have to offer.
With all those mince pies being
scoffed the following day (see 11th December news item) let’s hoped
that they’ve installed the ovens.
It is the same with the Bellway homes development at the former Holy Trinity School their hoarding says Bromley London.
ReplyDeleteI tell people all the time I live in Kent I do not have a London postcode. Newsreaders do it too they say Bromley in South East London, very annoying.
This area is in the county of Greater London. Bromley is a London Borough. We are part of a large urban area called London!! What the post office uses for its operations is irrelevant and even if you disagree please note that it does not use counties - all official addresses include a post town (such as Chislehurst or Orpington or London) but NOT a county. If we are in Kent then where should a place like Harrow be located? Its postcode is HA but its previous county Middlesex does not exist any more.
ReplyDeleteChislehurst is in a London Borough but this is merely an administrative division. When Royal Mail used counties in addresses, which they published up until only three years ago, Chislehurst addresses were "Chislehurst, Kent, BR7 ..." In our article we were merely obliquely pointing out that a Chislehurst address has never been, "Chislehurst, London, BR7 ..."
