Taste of Kent awards - get voting!

Chislehurst, Petts Wood and Bickley may be administratively in London, but postally they remain in Kent, which is just as well as there aren’t any Taste of London awards.

There are, however, Taste of Kent awards and voting for 2015 is now open and will remain so until December.

There are sixteen categories and Chislehurst Farmers Market has already been nominated in the Kent Farmers Market of the Year category. North-west Kent is woefully underrepresented and so Village News has added The Imperial Arms (currently standing at number one locally on Trip Advisor) as Kent Dining Pub of the Year, and Higgs Butchers as Kent Butcher or Meat Producer of the Year. You may have you own preferences, if so they can also be nominated.

Produced in Kent have been organising The Taste of Kent Awards since 2004 showcasing the best of Kent’s food and drink products.  It is the county’s longest running and most prestigious awards having gained many loyal sponsors and supporters during that time.

The range of categories has grown year on year and now incorporates every product that Kent, the Garden of England, is renowned for. With each passing year, the number of votes cast for your favourite food and drink heroes has also grown massively with Kent foodies demonstrating great support for local products by participating in these annual awards.

Cast your vote and make sure it counts.

Support Kent’s farmers and producers, restaurants and pubs and of course those independent shops.

Go to www.tasteofkentawards.co.uk to nominate and / or vote.

Fancy getting food poisoning in a local restaurant?

Fortunately, it's not likely to happen any time soon, in Chislehurst, Petts Wood or Bickley at least.

Scores on the Doors is a national food hygiene rating scheme, part of the Food Standards Agency. Inspections are carried out on food businesses by Bromley Council and a score given from 0 to 5.

0 = Urgent improvement necessary
1 = Major improvement necessary
2 = Improvement necessary
3 = Generally satisfactory
4 = Good
5 = Very good

We have extracted the names, scores and dates of inspection for Chislehurst, Petts Wood and Bickley establishments and put them in an easy to check format on the Scores on the Doors page, having colour coded the scores.

Since our last update in February:

Moved up three places
Rajdoot Tandoori 0 – 3
Gordon Arms 1 – 4

Rajdoot Tandoori was the only Village News establishment to score 0 previously, so we are pleased to see a dramatic improvement. At present there is no establishment with a 0 in the Village News area (apart from my home kitchen, and that doesn't count).

Moved up two places
Bengal Lancer 1 – 3
Bulls Head 3 – 5
Farringtons School 3 – 5
Murinci 1 - 3
Sydney Arms 1 – 3

Moved up one place
Antokol Home 4 – 5
Bullers Wood School For Girls 3 – 4
Caffe Giorno Platforms 3&4 3 – 4
Chislehurst Caves 3 – 4
Chislehurst Golf Club 3 – 4
Imperial Arms 3 - 4
St James RC Primary School 4 – 5

Moved down one place
Bridges Fish & Chips 3 – 2
Cafe Nero 5 – 4
Community Options 5 – 4
Morrisons 4 – 3
Red Hill Primary School 4 – 3
Thai Moom 3 – 2
Ty – 8 3 – 2
Willett House 5 – 4

Moved down two places
Gurkha Square 3 – 1
New Udaipur 3 – 1
The Lily Bar & Grill 4 – 2
Due Amici 5 – 3

These last four are the most depressing of all the results. Gurkha Square and New Udaipur have both gone from Generally Satisfactory to Major Improvement Necessary and both have been awarded "Little" Confidence in Management.

The Lily Bar and Grill has "Poor" Food Hygiene and Safety.

Although Due Amici is Generally Satisfactory it has slipped from Very Good; its Food Hygiene and Safety, and Structural Compliance are both now "Fair".

Please leave any comments below.

We have not listed those establishments that have not changed score between consecutive inspections.

New
Frogpool Manor Restaurant 4
Queen’s Village Bakery 1
Saints & Sinners 4
Tassili Tearoom 2

Rajdoot, here we come!
